Help while you wait
Get entry-level support like cleaning, meals, and transport—often within weeks—while staying on the Home Care funding waitlist.
If CHSP doesn’t cover your needs, private care is another option. For some people, private care can be a short-term solution while waiting for government funding, especially when support is urgently needed.
Once you've been assigned a package, you only have 56 days to choose a provider. Not sure how to choose? Read our handy factsheet.
Need more support than you used to?
If you're needs change while you're on the waitlist, you should get reassessed. A reassessment could unlock more funding and support.
Don't worry, you won't lose your spot.
Hospital visits, falls, or new conditions can mean it's time for more support like wound care, medication help, or physiotherapy.
Struggling to move around, get up, or get out? It could be a sign you need assistive equipment or home modifications.
If you’re leaning on family, neighbours, or friends more often, it might be time to formalise that help with extra care hours.
Forgetfulness or confusion can trigger access to dementia-specific support and regular welfare checks.
