Celebrating International Day of People with Disability: A United Effort for a Better World

December 3 is a day marked globally for an important cause – the International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD). This day serves as a platform to enhance awareness, understanding, and acceptance of people with disabilities within our communities. In 2023, the theme for IDPwD is particularly inspiring: ‘United in action to rescue and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for, with, and by persons with disabilities.’

This year’s theme is a call to action for everyone to join hands in creating a world that is more equitable and beneficial for people with disabilities. It centers around the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a set of 17 ambitious objectives that nations aim to achieve by 2030. These goals are designed to build a more just and equitable world for all. Ensuring the active participation and significant influence of people with disabilities in this endeavor is crucial.

At SAI, we’re embracing the 2023 IDPwD theme wholeheartedly. We’ve developed a 12-month action plan that aligns with recommendations from the Australian Government. Throughout the upcoming year, we’ll be highlighting stories and experiences of people with disabilities. Our aim is to spark meaningful conversations in our community about how we can collectively contribute to achieving the SDGs for, with, and by persons with disabilities. Join us in this important journey as we work towards a more inclusive and fair world.
